Guest Seminar: "Teaching Writing as a Practice of Freedom and Wellness" @ UB Writing Program
In this pedagogy session, facilitated by Dr. Eric Darnell Pritchard, we will have an informal discussion about a wide array of transgressive and contemplative practices used by teachers committed to grappling courageously and meaningfully with identity, anti-racism, and other matters of social justice in the teaching of writing, from university classrooms to community programs. Our shared texts for the discussion will be selections from bell hooks’s Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom (1994) and Becky Thompson’s Teaching with Tenderness: Toward an Embodied Practice (2017). We ask that attendees read the selections and come prepared to share and listen. We will meet in 540 Clemens Hall on the North Campus at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. Refreshments will be served.
